About and FAQ

"What is this?"

This is a Dandy’s World gameplay reimagining with a focus on floor events, run-revival mechanics, and exploring what it’d be like if Dandy were to join the runs with the other Toons. It has a religious theming and a more sinister atmosphere. Revamped game mechanics are designed to challenge the players’ friendships with each other, which in-universe, challenges the relationships of the fellow Toon characters.

These ideas are not really meant for the original Dandy’s World game, so please treat it as its own separate thing.

"Wait... so, is this an actual fangame? Huh?"

This is a series of art and comics based on exploring my game revamp and mechanics for Dandy’s World. I don’t currently possess the skills to make an actual game. It is nicknamed ‘Fangame AU’ just so people know it’s more about game concepts than a concrete linear story, and also to differentiate it from other AUs.

"What should we call it?"

The actual name for it was always ‘Petal Prayer’, which is Dandy’s active ability in the game revamp. However, I’ve mostly called it the ‘Fangame AU’ to make it obvious that it’s very game-mechanic focused. You can call it either one.

"Premise?"

Most of the comics are set in the early stage of the Ichor Operation. It follows the premise of the base game where the Toons and the Gardenview Museum Center have been left behind by the humans. They are left with the cursed and crumbling infrastructure of what was once a home. Dandy’s falling out with the Mains and longing for human connection once again are recurring themes.

Each Toon License a player purchases translates to that exact Toon being resurrected in-universe to join Dandy’s operation. So far, only Common Toons (known as Background Character Toons here) are able to be brought back at the moment. In universe, this is because Dandy isn’t able to find the references and model sheets to the other types of Toons yet. But for me, this lets me cut down the amount of characters to juggle and lets me hone in on their dynamics more. Even with just the Common Toons, I find we have a lot of player “roles” to work with. I’m keeping the cast of characters as small as possible. Even some of my own favorite Toons aren’t here, but I enjoy the challenge of thinking about characters I previously didn’t think much about.

"Background and Context?"

This was originally conceived as a Dandy’s World Story Mode concept with a long laundry list of game revamp ideas (mixed in with a personal lore interpretation) from early 2025. It was made specifically to be presented to the original group of people who had introduced me to Dandy’s World. Unfortunately, that plan has since fallen through. Early on, I was made aware of how notorious the community can be. So, I originally did not want to post any of this online at all. However, I wasn’t sure what to do with all these ideas … I suppose I wanted them to come to life one way or another, even if it didn’t match my original intention. Due to the unusual nature of how this AU was conceived, I probably won’t be super active or responsive online, unless we have taken the time to get to know one another. I’m a rather private person at the end of the day…

"How closely does it follow updates of the actual game?"

I had originally followed it closely to the canon lore but it has since evolved into its own thing, since new game mechanics involve revising things here and there. You’ll notice that every time you fill in pieces for the lore of Dandy’s World to have it make sense … it inevitably becomes an AU, haha.

My lore interpretation from early 2025 is probably not going to end up accurate later on. It probably won’t adhere to current updates to the ever-changing canon lore. Some parts might, but some parts might not. It’ll be a case by case thing.

Characters are not going to act exactly like they do in the original game since their differing gameplay mechanics gives them completely different experiences. Ex: Dandy’s experiences are different from actually being a part of the runs, Shrimpo’s experiences are different from having a valued niche team role, etc.

"Okay but which Toons will be making out sloppy style?"

I’m not particularly attached to any pairings from the canon characterization of the base game, since there’s not that much for me to work with. Back in early 2025, I had a personal rule to not ride or die with any ships because I’ve noticed people in this particular community get pretty aggressive about that. And I’m just too old for that. I’m here for the character exploration, and sometimes, playing around with different pairings reveals new things about the characters involved. You’ll probably see me doing that.

Personally, I’m not creating through the lens of inevitable romance. Even if I settle on certain pairings, it’s not gonna be the main focus anyway. I’m just not that serious about ships, you guys…

"What do you use to draw?"

Procreate on my iPad, and Paint Tool SAI on desktop, and Photopea for last minute touchups.

"What font do you use for the comics?"

I made a font out of my handwriting called ‘DFont’ and I’ve been primarily using that. Here is the link to it. The fonts on this website are called ‘Aclonica’ and 'Bodoni 72'.

Fun Facts

"When did you start playing?"

Friends introduced me to the game a couple weeks before the Yatta update.

"What Toon do you play as the most in Dandy’s World?"

Shelly!!!!! I also use Looey, Flyte, Vee and Astro quite a bit. Since the Halloween update, I've been playing as Vee and Gourdy the most. I've recently been playing more as Sprout, too.

What are you hyped for in the future?

I'd personally like a Toon that has four star extraction, four star stealth, and at least 3 star movement speed one day! It would be nice for the game to have a built-in matchmaking system to pair up players for organized runs (specific toons and trinket combos). It’d also be cool if there were seasonal floor events for each of the holiday events.

What interests you about the original game?

I am weirdly fascinated by Dandy’s World evolving gameplay meta, especially stuff like unusual-but-surprisingly-good long run team compositions, or unique trinket combinations that work really well for one Toon. Shout out to BleamXD’s fun long run streams with his permteam! I’ve learned a lot about the pro runs and gameplay meta through their streams, and they make great background noise for whenever I draw.

Other Notes:

  • I fear some of my earlier comics might have been a little misleading. Although it is the in-universe goal of the Toons, most of the AU’s content is not really about resurrecting and introducing more Toons to the cast. It is more about inventing fanmade game mechanics that force these characters to unravel themselves in front of each other. That’s why a good chunk of the Toons are not currently present; I don’t need to have the full cast to demonstrate how these mechanics work. I’m going to be doing something different and try to do as much as I can with a few Toons.
  • (That’s not to say you won’t see bits of other Toons throughout the comics though. You’re more likely to see those in flashbacks or gameplay demonstrations.)
  • Although comics are focused on Common Toons… I started writing and working on most of my ideas before Brusha was revealed so I don’t really have ideas on how to work her in. Holiday Toons are not present either.
  • I don’t have bios/references for them mostly because I come up with their designs on the spot and I tweak/change them throughout comics, depending on how I feel drawing them numerous times. I feel you guys get a better understanding of these characters better in the heat of a situation anyways!
  • The community intimidates me so I’m kind of keeping my distance from it. People are frequently outed to be problematic in both the fanart and gaming side so I am extremely cautious about who I interact with; I most likely won’t interact unless we already know each other or we're introduced by people I know. Maybe this is more of a current social media thing but I feel there are too many people being unnecessarily aggressive.
  • You are free to make fanart for these versions of the Toons. I appreciate the love. I might miss it though because I’ve purposely made myself rather closed off online. You guys are also free to ship and headcanon my versions of the Toons however you want (as long as it’s not fucked up illegal stuff, obviously).
  • This doesn’t need to be said but please don’t use anything I make to shit on the original game or other fanartists in the community. It puts me in a weird spot…
